Hiking backpacking and survival gear is a big part of my life. Mike and I go hiking and backpacking at least twice per year. Mostly on the Appalachian Trail AKA the AT. When we are not hiking we’re always thinking about survival, prepping and SHTF preparedness. Water filters and filtration are a huge part of all of it. On our most recent hike on the AT we decided we were due for a new water filter. The Katadyn Vario water filter we have used for several years did a really good job but it was a little on the bulky side also heavy for our gear and it was about worn out from as much as we’ve used it. So we went with the Katadyn Hiker this time. Here is my thoughts and gear review.
